What is pbWiki?

PbWiki stands for Peanut Butter Wiki - and is described as "easy as making a peanut butter sandwich". It is a hosted Wiki, which means you don't need to worry about installing and hosting. It takes about a minute to set up, and is relatively easy and user friendly - once you get the hand of wiki syntax! It is strong in the area of education and offers templates and samples of syllabus, group projects and classroom templates.

Strengths and weaknesses

General notes on the features of different wikis can be found at Wikimatrix.

URinvited2 add to / correct the following lists of strengths and weaknesses.

Strengths

*It uses simple wysiwyg for some editing features.

*No advertising

*Apparently you can use PBwiki to make a portfolio! Just pick the wiki pages to include, and it will "build a gorgeous portfolio for you. The best part: You can see your portfolio as an online slideshow, a PDF, and more."

*Simple layout

*Automatic toc using wiki syntax

*Comments are available on each page. However can't seem to rate comments as useful or not.

*Offers a range of access options. Public or private

*Different levels of privileges

*Good search facility

*RSS feeds for site (not for separate pages)

*Easily accessible page history.

*Can invite others to the site - sends out automatic emails with password

*Navigation straightfoward - sidebox

*Can lock pages

*Can ask for notification every time a page changes

Weaknesses

*Need to learn wiki syntax

*No associated blogs, forums etc. (This can also be a positive!)

*Only 3 designs - need up pay for more

*Uploading images takes a couple of steps
